Introductory Rites

"Gathering as the Body of Christ"

The Introductory Rites begin the celebration of the Holy Mass. They gather us as one community, prepare our hearts for worship, and help us enter into the sacred mysteries we are about to celebrate.

During these rites, we are called to leave behind the distractions of daily life and focus our minds and hearts on Christ, who is truly present among His people.

The Introductory Rites include:

• Entrance Procession & Entrance Chant 
• Sign of the Cross 
• Greeting 
• Penitential Act 
• Kyrie (Lord, Have Mercy) 
• Gloria (on Sundays outside Advent and Lent, and on solemnities and feasts) 
• Collect (Opening Prayer) 

Come before God with:

• A humble heart 
• A spirit of repentance 
• Gratitude for His mercy 
• A desire to worship Him with your whole mind, heart, and soul
